“…graven with an iron pen and lead…” Job 19:24

God & Country

Years ago, there was a religious service held at the Golden Gate Exposition in San Francisco. It quickly became obvious that the minister delivering the main address was a Christ rejecting liberal. While he was an eloquent speaker, he began to direct most of his message against the power of the blood of Christ. When his oratory ended, a timid, elder lady stood up in the midst of the crowd and softly began to sing a William Cowper hymn as a rebuttal to the modernist’s remarks. A hush fell over the assembly as they heard those faint but familiar words: “There is a fountain filled with blood drawn from Immanuel’s veins, and sinners plunged beneath that flood lose all their guilty stains.”

Before she could begin the second stanza, approximately a hundred people rose to join her. By the time she reached the third verse, nearly a thousand Christians all over the audience were singing that blessed song of faith. The triumphant, thrilling strains rang out loud and clear: “Dear dying Lamb, Thy precious blood shall never lose its power, till all the ransomed church of God be saved to sin no more.”

Many were deeply moved as that humble believer stood up for her Lord that day with the light of Heaven upon her face. My we, like that woman, stand for the Lord Jesus Christ in the public forum.

Whichever Way The Wind Blows

The famous preacher Charles Haddon Spurgeon went down into the country to visit a friend who had built a new barn, and on the barn was a cupola upon which they had put a weather vane with this text of Scripture on it: “God Is Love.” Spurgeon said to the man: “What do you mean by putting that text of Scripture on the weather vane? Do you mean that God’s love is as changeable as the wind?”

“Oh, no,” was the reply; “I mean to say that God is love whichever way the wind blows.”

Conditioning Your Mind

“…As he thinketh in his heart, so is he.” Proverbs 23:7

The things you read will fashion you by slowly conditioning your mind. The same thing is certainly true of the power of television, films and videos on the minds and morals of those who give themselves over to their influence.
