“…graven with an iron pen and lead…” Job 19:24
Pastor David L. Brown, Ph.D.
God & Country
“Tis the Lord Jesus Christ, God’s beloved Son and the heir of all things and He to whom the Father has committed all power in Heaven and earth and to whom He hath commanded every knee to bow and every tongue confess. Then how sad must be their estates who refuse to love, honor and obey Him…They are dreadfully doomed that will not receive and own Christ.” Revolutionary War Brigadier Chaplain John Gano
The Old Cross and The New
A.W. Tozer
We who preach the gospel must not think of ourselves as public relations agents sent to establish good will between Christ and the world. We must not imagine ourselves commissioned to make Christ acceptable to big business, the press, or the world of sports, or modern education. We are not diplomats but prophets, and our message is not a compromise but an ultimatum.
God offers life, but not an improved old life. The life he offers is life out of death. It stands always on the far side of the cross. Whosoever would possess it must pass under the rod. He must repudiate himself and concur in God’s just sentence against him…Let him not seek to make terms with God, but let him bow his head before the stroke of God’s stern displeasure and acknowledge himself worthy to die.
Having done this let him gaze with simple trust upon the risen Savior, and from Him will come life and rebirth and cleansing power. The cross that ended the earthly life of Jesus now puts an end to the sinner; and the power that raised Christ from the dead now raises him to a new life along with Christ.
Point To Ponder
“Jesus Christ is exclusively the Alpha and Omega of the Gospel, its proper object, its beginning and its end. It is He who founded it in His blood…!” Robert Haldane
The Bible Is The Magna Charta of The Church
Louis Gaussen – August 25, 1790 to June 18, 1863
The Church is a depository and not a judge. She delivers a testimony, not a judicial sentence. She discerns the canon of the Scripture; she does not make it. She has recognized its authenticity; she has not given it. The authority of the Scriptures in not founded then, on the authority of the Church; it is the Church that is founded on the authority of the Scriptures. That is why she prizes the Book; it is her Magna Charta. That is why she has fought foes, fiends and fagots (sticks used to burn people at the stake) in its defense. Christ is the origin of the Church’s life, but the Bible is the source of her light.
That is why the history of Christian martyrdom marks the progress of Church life. That is why you can track the Church of God through the centuries by the Blood line. It was the very insistent practice of Christianity to retain the Bible, study the Bible, exemplify the Bible, and teach the Bible that brought the wrath of men upon her head.
Death and Taxes
As Alisa Bonaparte, Napoleon’s sister, lay dying, someone commented that nothing was as sure as death. Alisa quickly added, “Except taxes.” Hence the oft-quoted saying, “Nothing is sure except death and taxes.” (Readers Digest)
Prayer Power
J. Hudson Taylor
The prayer power has never been tried to its full capacity in any church. If we want to see mighty wonders of divine power and grace wrought in the place of weakness, failure, and disappointment, let the whole church answer God’s standing challenge, “Call unto me, and I will answer thee, and show thee great and mighty things which thou knowest not!”
